Given region,
E=(x,y):3−x≤y≤9−x2,0≤x≤3
Since, point (p,p+1) lie on line y=x+1∴ Point of intersection of y=x+1 and y=3−x
i.e.,
x+1=3−x⇒2x=2⇒x=1
and y=2
and point of intersection of y=x+1 and
y=9−x2
i.e., (x+1)2=9−x2⇒x2+1+2x=9−x2⇒2x2+2x−8=0⇒x2+x−4=0⇒x=2−1±1+4(1)(4)⇒x=2−1±17⇒x=2−1+17,x∈[0,3])∴p∈(1,2−1+17)⇒a=1,b=2−1+17∴b2+b−a=41+17−217+2(−1+17)−1=418−217−2+217−4=412=3
