Question 1 of 10HardNUMERICAL
The sum of squares of all the real solutions of the equation
log(x+1)(2x2+5x+3)=4−log(2x+3)(x2+2x+1) is equal to ____ .
Answer: 2 Solutions · 1
Official solution
log(x+1)(2x2+5x+3)=4−log(2x+3)(x2+2x+1)
⇒ log(x+1)(x+1)(2x+3)=4−log(2x+3)(x+1)2
⇒ log(x+1)(x+1)+log(x+1)(2x+3)=4−2log(2x+3)(x+1)
⇒ 1+log(2x+3)(x+1)1=4−2log(2x+3)(x+1)
Substitute log(2x+3)(x+1)=t
∴ 1+t1=4−2t⇒2t2−3t+1=0
⇒(t−1)(2t−1)=0⇒t=1,21
For t = 1,
log(2x+3)(x+1)=1⇒2x+3=x+1⇒x=−2
For t = 21,
log(2x+3)(x+1)=21⇒(x+1)2=2x+3⇒x2=2⇒x=±2
