Let f(x)=[x2−x]+∣−x+[x]∣, where x∈R and [t] denotes the greatest integer less than or equal to t. Then, f is :

Official solution
We have,
\[f(x)=[x2−x]+∣−x+[x]∣=[x(x−1)]+{x}
\]
\[
f(x)=\left\{\[x+10−1+x0x−1;;;;;−0.5<x<0x=00<x<1x=11<x<1.5\]\right.
\]
At x=0,
\[
\[\begin{gathered} \text { LHL }=\lim\limits_{x \rightarrow 0^{-}} f(x)=1 \\ \text { RHL } \lim\limits_{x \rightarrow 0^{+}} f(x)=-1 \\ f(0)=0 \end{gathered}\]
\]
∴f(x) is not continuous at x=0
At x=1
\[
LHLRHLf(1)=x→1−limf(x)=−1+1=0=x→1+limf(x)=1−1=0=0
\]
∴f(x) is continuous at x=1
Hence, f(x) is continuous at x=1, but not continuous at x=0.
