Let α∈R be such that the function
\[f(x)=⎩⎨⎧{x}−{x}3cos−1(1−{x}2)sin−1(1−{x}),α,x=0x=0\]
is continuous at x=0, where {x}=x−[x], [x] is the greatest integer ≤x. Then:

Official solution
As x→0−, {x}→1; as x→0+, {x}→0.
LHL =x→0lim(1+x)(2+x)cos−1(−x2−2x)=1⋅2cos−1(0)=4π
RHL =2πx→0limxcos−1(1−x2)=2π⋅2x→0lim2x2−x4x=2π (via L'Hopital)
Since LHL =4π= RHL =2π, the function is discontinuous at x=0 for every α. So no such α exists.
