Let α=3sin−1(116) and β=3cos−1(94), where inverse trigonometric functions take only the principal values.
Statement I: cos(α+β)>0.
Statement II: cos(α)<0.
In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below :

Since 21<116<21,
\[\sin^{-1}\frac12<\sin^{-1}\frac{6}{11}<\sin^{-1}\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}\ \Rightarrow\ \frac{\pi}{2}<\alpha<\frac{3\pi}{4}\ \Rightarrow\ \cos\alpha<0.\quad\text{(Statement II is true)}\]
Also 94<21<21, so cos−194>3π>4π, giving β=3cos−194>π.
Since α>2π and β>π, α+β>23π, which lies where cos(α+β)>0 is consistent (the two inequalities together place α+β in a range giving a positive cosine). Hence Statement I is also true.
Both statements are true.
