The locus of a point P(α,β) moving under the condition that the line y=αx+β is a tangent to the hyperbola a2x2−b2y2=1 is:

Official solution
Tangent to the hyperbola \[{{{x^2}} \over {{a^2}}} - {{{y^2}} \over {{b^2}}} = 1\] is
\[y = mx \pm \sqrt {{a^2}{m^2} - {b^2}} \]
Given that \[y = \alpha x + \beta \] is the tangent of hyperbola
\[ \Rightarrow m = \alpha \] and \[{a^2}{m^2} - {b^2} = {\beta ^2}\]
\[\therefore\] \[{a^2}{\alpha ^2} - {b^2} = {\beta ^2}\]
Locus is a2x2−y2=b2 which is hyperbola.
