Let one focus of the hyperbola H:a2x2−b2y2=1 be at (10,0) and the corresponding directrix be x=109. If e and l respectively are the eccentricity and the length of the latus rectum of H , then 9(e2+l) is equal to :

Official solution
\[\frac{x^2}{a^2}-\frac{y^2}{b^2}=1\]
Directrix : x=109=ea..... (i)
Focus : (10,0)≡(ae,0)
\[a e=\sqrt{10}\quad\text{..... (ii)}\]
(i) × (ii)
\[\Rightarrow a^2=9 \Rightarrow a=3\]
Substitute in (ii)
\[e=\frac{\sqrt{10}}{3}\]
\[ Now e2=1+a2b2910=1+ab2⇒b=1I=a2b2=32×1=32a[e2+l]=9[910+32]=10+6=16\]
