We have, equation of ellipse : 15x2+19y2=285
or 19x2+15y2=1
Let the coordinate of center of circle be (0,0).
Equation of circle is x2+y2=16
Equation of tangent of ellipse is
y=mx±19m2+15mx−y±19m2+15=0
It is also tangent to the circle x2+y2=16
Perpendicular distance from center of circle to tangent =4m2+1∣0−0±19m2+15∣=4
On squaring both side, we get
19m2+15=16m2+163m2=1m2=31m=±31tanθ=31⇒θ=6πX3π with Y-axis
Hence, the common tangents are inclined to the minor axis of the ellipse at an angle of 3π.
