Let f(x)=ax2+bx+c be such that f(1)=3,f(−2)=λ and f(3)=4. If f(0)+f(1)+f(−2)+f(3)=14, then λ is equal to:
Solutions · 1
Official solution
f(1)=a+b+c=3; f(3)=9a+3b+c=4.
f(0)+f(1)+f(−2)+f(3)=14⟹c+3+(4a−2b+c)+4=14⟹4a−2b+2c=7.
From f(1) and f(3): 8a+2b=1. Combined with 4a−2b+2c=7−2(a+b+c−3)... solving the system gives a=61,b=−61,c=3.
\[f(-2)=4a-2b+c=\frac46+\frac26+3=1+3=4.\]
