Let the smallest value of k∈N, for which the coefficient of x3 in (1+x)3+(1+x)4+(1+x)5+⋯+(1+x)99+(1+kx)100 is (43n+4101)(100C3) for some n∈N, be p. Then the value of p+n is:

The coefficient of x3 in (1+x)3+(1+x)4+⋯+(1+x)99 is r=3∑99(3r)=(4100) (hockey-stick identity), and the coefficient of x3 in (1+kx)100 is (3100)k3.
So total coefficient of x3 is (4100)+(3100)k3. Setting this equal to (43n+4101)(3100):
\[\frac{\binom{100}{4}}{\binom{100}{3}}+k^3 = 43n+\frac{101}{4}\]
Since (3100)(4100)=4100−3=497, this gives k3+497=43n+4101, i.e.
k3=43n+1
We need the smallest k∈N (k≥1) such that k3−1 is divisible by 43 for some n≥1. Testing n=1,2,3,4,5,…: k3=44,87,130,173,216,… Only n=5 gives k3=216=63, so k=6.
Thus p=6, n=5, and p+n=11.
